  Bedford County Fairgrounds Speedway to Host Business After Hours
The Bedford County Fairgrounds Speedway continues to celebrate its 80th anniversary by hosting the business community for a unique Business After Hours mixer on Thursday, June 23rd.

This year, the speedway celebrates its 80th anniversary.

The track was built in 1936 and the first race was held on September 5, 1936. Since that time, the speedway has been in nearly continuous operation, making it the oldest active speedway in the state and one of the oldest in the country.
The speedway provides weekly racing entertainment to tens of thousands of people every summer here in Bedford. We promote around 25 events a year, each one attracting people from the local community as well as racers and fans from throughout the surrounding region.

Currently, the speedway provides employment for nearly 60 people. Many are also employed at the many satellite businesses that the speedway supports, such a race car builders and parts suppliers.

The speedway brings millions of dollars into the local community. The most recent economic impact survey put the figure at $4.1 million annually in economic impact.
The Chamber held a business celebration in April marking the anniversary. Several local dignitaries attended the celebration, and track promoter Joe Padula had the honor of cutting the cake.

In addition to celebrating 80 years for the Bedford Fairgrounds Speedway, Padula is also celebrating his fifth year overseeing the track.
At the anniversary celebration, Padula shared the importance of the track’s history, as well as the pride of everyone involved in working at the track.

Padula says he’s looking forward to promoting the track “at least” until its 100th anniversary, and is excited to host Business After Hours at the track to share it with the community.
“We are very excited and thankful to have the support of the Bedford County Chamber of Commerce here at the speedway,” Padula said. “Kellie and her team have long helped us out with a variety of projects and events and we are extremely grateful for that. We are looking forward to opening our track up and giving everyone a behind the scenes look at the exciting world of dirt track racing.”
