Education in Bedford County

Educating over 7,800 students in grades K-12, Bedford County Schools are teaching the workforce of tomorrow.  There are five school districts in Bedford County and a small portion of a sixth district - Claysburg-Kimmel, which is largely within Blair County.

All five districts use the services of the Bedford County Technical Center.  Students at BCTC can choose from over 20 courses to prepare them for the workforce or for continuing their education.  The Technical Center instructs nearly 1,000 students in grades 10-12, but the class offerings don't stop with high school graduation.  Through a partnership with Allegany College of Maryland, high school graduates can continue their education and pursue a wide range of courses including certificate, two year associate degrees, and transfer programs designed to give students the first two years of a 4 year program.  Post-secondary career options include Business Management, Accounting, Web Development, Psychology and many more.  Students can complete up to 12 college credits while still in high school.  BCTC also offers many choices for adults continuing their education.

Bedford County families are fortunate to have many excellent options close to home for students wishing to continue their education.  Saint Francis University, less than an hour's drive away, has been honored again with a U.S. News and World Report "Best College" ranking.  Frostburg State University, about the same distance to the south, offers over 40 fields of study and a 17:1 student to faculty ratio.  Mount Aloysius College, in nearby Cresson, is a Catholic college.  The college's liberal arts program focuses on academics while recognizing spiritual, cultural, social and personal growth as essential elements in the development of the student.
